Kevin vs. Bowerman (Kevin wins!)

I really enjoyed Kevin's short, sweet, to the point guide to collection development and think it will be a great learning tool for new staff. Kenny Moore, much like his book, made me a little drowsy, but I think it is very cool that there are so many ways and formats to access information. Podcast and YouTube really do that.

It's funny: I remember being in a library science class just last year, and when the subject of YouTube came up, I'd say less than half of the library students knew what it was. That was only a year or so ago! My favorite YouTube series to date is Brotherhood 2.o, where the author of teen book Looking For Alaska John Green and his brother communicate throughout the year only through YouTube. It gets a little goofy after awhile, but YouTube certainly provides people with a creative outlet.

Am I done? Huh? Huh? Do I get my cool prize now? December is all about Holiday/Birthday greed for me! Oh, and Christmas spirit.

Flikr me this

So my best friend from--you guessed it--Uzbekistan came to visit the other day. He made me nostalgic and I started to miss all the great food I had in Central Asia like --PLOV! This great rice dish with saffron, lamb and tons of other stuff. Old men stir it in a huge drum for big parties. Take a look. I found pictures of it on flikr and turned them into a badge

wikis and wikipedia

One of my favorite examples of why not to trust wikipedia for hard research:

bookmarking 2.0

I never got the hang of bookmarking web pages because I would keep using different computers and never remembered to bookmark the same pages on each computer. Then library school came and I found out about del.icio.us. Finally! A way to carry my cool web pages with me! I might go a week or so without checking my del.icio.us account, but when I do, I find hidden sites I don't even remember tagging. And if I have some time on my hands, it is fun to see who tagged the same stuff I did. Maybe they have a cool site I haven't heard about before.
